Waves - A Portrait of Maria a Heygum is a beautiful short film about a grandmother who swims in the sea every day. Made by her grandson, filmmaker Heidrik a Heygum, it's a story about the intimate relationship between human and nature and the inner peace we can receive "through what is simple, elemental and unspoiled."
Despite being from the little village of Vestmanna in the Faroe Islands of Denmark, with a nonexistent film industry and population just over 1,200, Heidrik chose to stay and become a pioneer in his hometown. He does most of the film work himself, taking it as "a challenge that enables him to gain an insight into all the areas of filmmaking." He shares more about making the film here.
